Children’s Literature Annotated Bibliography
2.1 Literature
Candidates are familiar with a wide range of children’s, young adult, and professional literature in multiple formats and languages to support reading for information, reading for pleasure, and reading for lifelong learning. Description
This is an annotated bibliography of “Great Books to Read” of almost fifty award-winning children’s books chosen for elementary students. It includes pictures books, chapter books, and nonfiction books that I selected using ALA award lists. The bibliography is intended to be used as a resource in the media center for students who are not sure what to check out during book exchange time. Analysis This bibliography is designed to be engaging to elementary students. There are colorful pictures, and the text is larger and simplified. Students can easily flip through this bibliography in a binder to get ideas on something new to read. An unexpected benefit of this list is that it can be used for weekly book talks as well. One revision I need to make is to add the call number below the picture of the book, which will help students find the books more easily. I would also like to add blank pages for students to suggest their own “Great Book to Read.” Reflection Every one of the books in this bibliography is wonderful. I enjoyed reading each one, and I loved the process of putting the bibliography together. After I compiled it, I was up-to-date on all the current award-winning books. It helped me make better book recommendations to teachers as well as students. Going forward, I need to set aside time each year to read the award-winning books, so I can continue to stay current. |
