School Library Website
3.1 Efficient and ethical information-seeking behavior
Candidates identify and provide support for diverse student information needs. Candidates model multiple strategies for students, other teachers, and administrators to locate, evaluate, and ethically use information for specific purposes. Description
My library website is designed to meet the needs of our school community. It includes information on library hours, book exchange schedule, links to the online catalog, screencasts of various tools, and more. In addition, there is information for volunteers and substitutes on how to use the circulation system to check out books. Analysis This website is well organized, has lots of useful information for students and teachers, and is easily updated. I am especially proud of the screencasts for using the OPAC and various databases. The weakness is that I was never able to utilize it as my main library page because the school website already has a media center page. In the future, I would like to find a way to allow students to use my site more as a resource. I would also need to revise it to have circulation system instructions for the county where I am currently working. An unexpected benefit of the page was that I used it often for volunteers and substitutes as a place to keep sub plans and instructions on how to use the circulation system. Reflection I love my school library website because it looks very professional and is well organized. It supports diverse student needs by providing an additional way for students to view and access library information. If I review an online resource with students, this website allows me to share a screencast or digital presentation for students who are absent or need a reminder. Since I have personally selected all the resources and websites on this site, I can help students use all of them. The school’s media center page has resources that are selected at the county level, some of which are not used by every school. I have used this page as an information resource, but going forward I would like to use it for literature promotion as well. This site is a great place to provide links for reading promotions and book trailers, and I would like to highlight those more in the future. |
