Staff Inservice for Online Tools and Learn 360

During my practicum, I planned and presented an inservice for middle school teachers. I designed a short survey to gather teacher and staff feedback on topics about which they wanted to learn more. I planned my instruction based on their requests. My inservice included an overview of the newest media center online tools, and more in-depth instruction with the Learn360 database. Analysis With so many online resources in the media center, it can be difficult to become familiar with every resource. After giving an overview of new online resources and highlighting the features of Learn360, I provided time for teachers to try out the different tools. My favorite aspect of this inservice was that I was able to provide multiple sessions for different grade levels. This allowed me to customize the training for each teacher’s needs. I discovered that the most valuable commodity for teachers is time, and providing them time to use the new resources was greatly appreciated. The only thing I would change next time would be to make sure teachers came with a topic in mind to use when exploring the resources. Reflection Teachers gave up their planning time to attend my inservice, so I wanted my training to be meaningful. The pre-inservice survey was invaluable in my preparation, and I used that information to create a relevant inservice experience. After the training, I was pleased to read that one hundred percent of the teachers said the training was relevant to them, and ninety percent said they would use the resources in the future. Some of the teachers even commented that they found content they could use in their classes immediately. All of this feedback convinced me that going forward I will continue to survey teachers and staff to provide relevant professional development experiences for them. |
