This reference web page includes websites, databases, and eBook collections. It was designed to help students with research projects or as a place to learn more about their interests. There are resources for all grades from kindergarten through twelfth grade, but the screencasts and project pathfinders are designed for elementary students. Analysis On this site there are a wide variety of resources listed for every subject imaginable. The icons and simplified descriptions make the page kid-friendly, but other than grouping the resources by type, they are not in any categories or groups. It would be more accessible to students if the resources were grouped by subject or tagged with subject keywords. Putting this page together, I learned a lot about the free Maryland state library resources, such as the AskUsNow site. A future update would be to highlight this valuable resource for middle or high school students. Reflection This page was designed to give all students equitable access to information and library resources, whether they are in the library, their classroom, or at home. While the research databases are useful, my personal favorites are the kid-friendly websites where students can explore topics that interest them. Young students are eager to use computers and very receptive to learning new information. If they can be directed to websites that will allow them to explore their interests, we can continue to foster their love of learning. I would like to highlight more of these kid-friendly sites in the future and give students the opportunity to explore them in more detail. |
