Young Adult Reading Web
2.2 Reading promotion
Candidates use a variety of strategies to promote leisure reading and model personal enjoyment of reading in order to promote habits of creative expression and lifelong reading. Description
This pamphlet is a reading web of books for middle and high school students to enjoy reading. There are three categories of books listed: summer vacations, graphic novels, and other books by the same author. Each book has a picture of the cover and a short description to draw in readers. Analysis This reading web was designed with teenagers’ short attention spans in mind. Each book description is only a sentence or two in length, and each book has a QR code next to it that students can scan with their mobile device. Right now, the QR codes point to information about the book or author, but I may revise those to point to book trailers instead. I also need to update the web and add the call number next to each book so that students will be able to find the book once they have selected a new book to read. Reflection This reading web took a while to create because I spent time designing it to be engaging. Once I finished, I loved how it looked. I wish I had time to design more reading webs like this one. It would be great if I could make one new reading web pamphlet every quarter, so eventually students have several pamphlets for various sections of the media center. A reading web pamphlet is also a great alternative book report project for students because there are so many creative options. |
